In the Greek myth, Pluto (Hades) falls in love with the lovely daughter of Demeter, the Goddess of the Harvest. He abducts Proserpina and takes her to the underworld to live as his queen. Demeter grieves causing endless winter until Pluto agrees to allow the maiden to live half the year with her mother, dwelling in the underworld as his queen the other half thus giving us the change of the seasons - Spring and summer when Demeter is rejoicing with her daughter at her side, Fall and winter when Prosepina decends to the underworld with her husband.
